Veritas Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu opened in 2010, in Dalton, Georgia and has recently moved to 2011 Cleveland Highway, across from the Dalton Country Club. Veritas BJJ is a family friendly gym, excited to grow the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and help individuals and families reach their personal BJJ and fitness goals.
Classes at Veritas Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are offered for adults and children and range from forty-five minutes to ninety minutes long. Each class varies from day to day, but will always include a warm-up, technique, and “rolling” or sparring. Scheduled classes are offered on weeknights and on weekends. Personal and custom Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training and private lessons are available for groups or individuals.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes taking an opponent to the ground and utilizing ground fighting techniques and submissions involving joint locks and chokeholds. The premise of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which can be negated when grappling on the ground. Sport Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on submissions without the use of striking. This allows practitioners to practice at full speed and with full power, resembling the effort used in a real competition.
The staff at Veritas BJJ have multiple years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, American Wrestling, and no-gi submission grappling. Jason Finnell, head instructor at Veritas, is a BJJ purple belt under Tommy Wales and Renato Taveres of American Top Team Vero Beach. Jason was a three time Tennessee state champion wrestler at McCallie School in Chattanooga, and wrestled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Jason is a graduate of UTC, with an MBA from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. Assistant instructor, Derek Cleary is a BJJ brown belt, and UFC judge. Students at Veritas BJJ have a wide variety of skill levels. Opportunities to compete in local and regional events are available to all Veritas students.
Training methods include technique drills in which techniques are practiced against a non-resisting partner and full sparring in which each opponent tries to submit their opponent using any legal technique. Physical conditioning is also an important part of training at Veritas. Beginners and advanced practitioners are welcome. Regardless of your experience level, our program will allow you to get in shape, sharpen your skills, and have fun doing it! The best way experience Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is to try it out. A free trial class is offered to anyone who wishes to experience Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu first hand. We hope to see you soon.
